MEDICAL ELECTIVES/ROTATION FOR INDIAN STUDENTS THROUGH IIMSA


IIMSA can provide clinical Experiences in Medicine, Pre-Medicine, Dentistry, and Nursing for Indian students. Students can apply, and attend a U.S., U.K., Canada or virtual clinical experience! Choose from 280+ rotations at top hospitals, clinics, and universities.
Medical electives for Indian students through IIMSA involve short-term clinical placements, typically lasting 2-8 weeks, where students gain practical experience in healthcare settings. These electives are usually undertaken during a dedicated period, often in the final or penultimate year of medical school. Indian students can apply to various UK, Canada and USA medical schools and teaching hospitals to participate in these placements, observing and shadowing clinical practice under the supervision of a consultant.
Key aspects of medical electives in the USA, Canada and UK for international students:

Placement Duration:

Electives/rotation usually ranges from 2 to 8 weeks, with some hospitals/universities allowing extensions depending on the program and hospital.

Application Process:

Students need to apply to the chosen medical school or hospital, often through an online application form.

Visa Requirements:

Indian students typically need to apply for a visa to undertake an elective placement in the USA, UK, Canada etc. or any other countries.

Department Availability:

Elective placements are subject to availability in specific departments, and students may need to be flexible with their chosen specialty.

Students are assigned a clinical supervisor who provides guidance and facilitates their learning experience within the clinical team.

Accommodation

Some University/hospitals may offer accommodation options, although this may be limited. Most of the time the students need to find their own accommodation.

English Language Requirements:

Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency, as required by the chosen institution/hospitals. Most circumstances the host University/hospitals shall accept Indian students without separate English exams as the medium of instruction is in English for medical studies in India.

Fees:

There may be a fee associated with the elective placement, which is usually payable upon acceptance.

Insurance

Students need to ensure they have appropriate medical malpractice insurance for the duration of their elective.
